“Sinjar, My Soul, To You I Belong“ will be shown as an interactive indoor and outdoor exhibition including photographs, video clips, poems and text passages from Shingal in northern Iraq, the heartland of the religious minority of Yezidi people.

Choosing a public space means also creating a place for discussions and encounters. The photographs and texts therefore serve as a starting point for several discussions on topics such as migration, persecution, trauma and resilience as well as religion and coexistence. By showing videos, poetry and texts from the Yezidi community the project also gives insights into a culture which represents a valuable cultural heritage thereby also broaching the issues of prejudices to better understand aspects of Middle Eastern cultures and politics as well as the topic of migration and migration culture in Germany.

The interactive exhibition is intended to reach a broad audience and stimulate fruitful discussions on various topics to show a complex but also emotional picture of a region whose situation is closely interwoven with Europe and the West.
